Black Kitchen bread baking

Step back in time and experience the traditional art of bread baking in one of Kamnik’s oldest houses. At House Stele, visitors have the unique opportunity to learn historic baking techniques in an authentic 14th-century Black Kitchen, where generations of families once prepared their daily meals around an open fire.

Under the expert guidance of Mrs. Olga, you will knead, shape, and prepare your own loaf of bread using traditional methods passed down through generations. As the dough slowly transforms into freshly baked bread, you can explore the historic Black Kitchen, experience its unique atmosphere, and discover how food was prepared long before modern kitchens existed.

The warmth of the hearth, the scent of baking bread, and the centuries-old surroundings create an experience that engages all the senses and offers a genuine connection to Slovenia’s culinary heritage. Along the way, you will learn about the role bread played in everyday family life and the traditions that accompanied its preparation.

Suitable for participants of all ages, this workshop combines history, culture, and hands-on learning. At the end of the experience, you will take home your own freshly baked loaf—a delicious reminder of a tradition that has been cherished for generations.
