Architect Jože Plečnik, one of Slovenia’s most celebrated cultural figures, shared a close friendship with the Stele family and left a lasting mark on their candlemaking tradition and House Stele itself. Inspired by this collaboration, he designed numerous decorative motifs and candle patterns, many of which have been carefully preserved and are still used by the family today.
During this workshop, participants are introduced to the traditional art of candle decorating and have the opportunity to work with original Plečnik-inspired designs. Guided by experienced instructors, visitors learn how decorative motifs are transferred onto candles using techniques that have been passed down through generations of Stele candlemakers.
The workshop offers a unique combination of creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. As you decorate your own candle, you will gain insight into the history of the Stele family, the traditional craft of candlemaking, and the artistic legacy of Jože Plečnik. Each finished candle becomes a personal keepsake, inspired by designs that have connected art and craftsmanship for decades.
Suitable for both adults and children, this hands-on experience offers a memorable way to engage with Slovenian heritage while creating a unique handcrafted souvenir to take home.
